Rare Breed Chicken
The Silver Grey Dorking is one of the oldest British breeds of chicken being descended from stock brought to Britain by the Romans. Five toes are one of the distinguishing features of the Dorking. The Dorking is a rare breed and is listed as vunerable on the Rare Breeds Survival Trust. They were developed in Victorian times mainly as a table bird, having delicate white flesh with a long body and short legs. The Dorking is a docile breed but they do like to range so we let them wander around eating fresh grass and finding lovely grubs to gobble up. They always have access to our hand built chicken houses, which are clean and large to allow air circulation with a low stocking density. They make good mothers and lay moderate numbers of good-sized white eggs.
Fresh whole free range chickens will be availible to buy on line very soon. They are absolutely exquisite, full of flavour just how they used to be.
